Hi Krystal,

I just found your blog this evening and I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far.
This post in particular is something I completely agree with.. The whole modern-day celebrity obession is something that really annoys me. And I too, am a firm believer in thrifting and creativity, as apposed to overpriced fad-fashion.
Money certainly doesn't buy style.

no joke, i once had a dream about a magical red dior dress made of whispers and stardust. i had to wear black chucks and leather cuffs just to tone its goddessness down. when i woke up i sketched it, then searched ebay for it. i believe you are wearing its sister.

Whomever feels that fashion and designer items is about buying yourself a glorified image-and practices this- is completely missing the point of fashion. I feel sorry for the growing population of fashion victims that have lost their individuality and respect for the true art of what fashion is.

I understand what you're saying about the blogs...and the recognition, I suppose. However, I don't think it's true for everyone, even if just a small handful.

Some people have ideas, unique ideas, and to make those ideas alive, recognition is required. For what is an idea, if you can't share it with the world?

Great dress! I read your blog every day and feel like you are going through some rough spots about finding your place & having to make a stand about it in a way. Your posts are so amazing to read! I especially like the line "We're all just kids posting silly outfits", that's so true. Having a blog sometimes makes me embarrassed, like I'm saying "Oh, hey, everybody, look how cute I am!". Blogging feels like such a big competition but then I do enjoy sharing my outfits with other people, and it's such a fun thing to do!

I love that you can write about this stuff without sounding like a self important dick. but to be honest, thinking about that sort of thing in context depresses me, not only because I know that the likelihood of me getting to where I want to be is slim, but because even if I do achieve it then it means that there are so many other people who can't. Frustrating, but there you have it.

To Anon number 2, we are all hypocritical on some level.

No one among us is perfect. I am a vegan in diet, but I wear leather shoes, and cary leather bags. I don't apologize for this, because we all do what we can in this world. We all have ideas to share, and we are, some of us anyway, trying to figure out what the bigger picture in life is.

I think what Krystal is suggesting, is that we look a little deeper into ourselves, rather than getting caught up in an image, and in particular, one that an industry dictates.

There is nothing at all wrong with having nice things, or even spending a lot of money on something that you really love.

I love beautiful things, but they speak nothing about who I am on a deep level, and the things I have are but a small expression of me.

I try to buy things I love, so that I don't have any regret.

Sometimes I get caught up in envy and feel like I am lacking in some way, because I just don't have the luxury to buy what I want when I want. When I do this, I have lost sight of what is real, and It is nice to be reminded from time to time.

I appreciate this post very much.

I think it is sad that you couldn't even work on a film without some losers hitting on you. Please don't give up the blog. It may be image based,but at least it can be a source of inspiration for real artists, to create things and make up their own worlds,something of real value and importance. I mean, I guess I do think image is over-rated, but would you listen to the same music, if they wore sweats, or disreagrd art, becuase it has an image? I don't know if I would, I really don't.
