Baby, you're a rich man

In 3rd grade I cut all my hair off like Jean Seberg and wore clothes from the boy's department. I played in the dirt, and swam with my shirt off. "This is what granddaughter looks like," my grandfather said while showing everyone a picture from the year before. Strangers would use he's, and him's. My mom told everyone it was just a phase; "she'll grow out of it," she would say. My neighbor told me I looked like Bowie. Girls at school called me a freak; the boys didn't care what I wore as long as I could run fast, and play ball.

American Nights

This was my weekend holiday party look. When you have a dress this spectacular, this show-stopping, this Birkin-esque, you don't really need much to go with it--and in my case, that includes makeup or shoes. But I feel that way about every piece my friend Suzanne from Spanish Moss has given me over the years from her collection American Gold--and it's that section of my closet that I go to first when I have a festive event to get to.

Girls

Unlike a lot of people, I have a love affair with high waisted jeans--or anything high waisted for that matter. I feel that the higher waists of say, Levis 501's, or the hip-defining 70's high waisted bells really show off women's shape, and I think that shape should be embraced and appreciated instead of hidden or slimmed down to fit the airbrushed and photoshopped standard of beauty that mainstream media sells. True, I'm a huge tomboy, and advocate of menswear of any kind, but it doesn't mean I want to get rid of all the worlds curves and stuff them into a pair of skinny jeans or a suit. I grew up just like a lot of you out there; comparing myself to the people I saw on TV and in magazines, and it was only recently that I started to accept that those things are all lighting, makeup, and computer trickery, and that I'm doing great just the way I am--hips and all. We all want to be flawless and forever-young like a 15 year old supermodel, but I had to finally acknowledge that in real life people have pores, bed head, wrinkles, the occasional blemish, and the lighting isn't always studio-flattering. We're all born with a different set of genetics, and most people aren't naturally stick-thin, and that's not a curse; it's the way it should be.

Very.com Launches in the Unites States

They stock more than 750 brands, and deliver 25 million parcels a year to more than 50 countries, and finally, one of my long-time Brit favorites Very.com has officially launched in the United States!

Very always stocks the best British brands, products, and trends at a fantastic price, and sweet collaborations with celebrities like Whitney Port and Fearne Cotton who just debuted her new Autumn/Winter range that I'm really loving. Best news of all: Very.com offers free shipping for orders over $98--and free returns (!!!), how could you not indulge just a bit for yourself, and take care of your holiday shopping list all at the same time?

Very's Group Retail Director Gareth Jones said, “On top of our extensive fashion range, we’ll be updating customers on all the latest trends and we’re especially excited about our regular “Street Style” blog, where we’ll be out on the streets of London to get the inside track on what’s hot." Very sells a dress and a pair of jeans in the UK every 12 seconds, so I think they know what they're talking about. Jones adds, “We are hugely excited about our launch into the US. We have done our homework, talking to thousands of customers across the USA and we’re confident our women’s and men’s ranges, including our exclusive British fashion brands such as Love Label and Goodsouls, will prove as popular Stateside as they are in the UK." I'm sure it will!

Be sure to sign up for their mailing list to keep up to date with the newest arrivals and offers. This post was sponsored by Very.

"I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend" - Freddie Mercury

Happy Halloween! This was definitely one of my favorite costumes of all time, and I'm sure Freddie will be making a few encore appearances.
